I know you don't want to hear this, but the likelihood of her being in an accident withing the first year are VERY high. That's why insurance is so high for new drivers. Buy a well used car at first.
Then, after a couple years, when she has some experience and is comfortable behind the wheel, reward her with a new car. (LITERALLY been there, done that, with three daughters. They ALL wrecked cars.
Frankly, SUVs are terrible vehicles for anyone. They're grossly unsafe (Because, under car safety laws, they are not included in the types of vehicles that most of the safety regs apply to), handle very poorly, are prone to tipping over, and have poor crashworthiness. If you want to kill your daughter, by all means, make it an SUV.
Plus, if it's basically a commuting car for her, a compact hatchback or sedan would be the far better choice. Such a vehicle is far safer than an SUV and handles far better on the road, and almost always have far better driver visibility. Cars like the Honda Fit or Ford Focus would be good choices.
