2012 macbook air or macbook pro?

If you want more processing power, go with the Macbook Pro. If you want lighter weight, go with the Macbook Air. I am looking at making a similar decision.

I am probably going to so with the Macbook Pro and I'll probably upgrade to an SSD later on when the prices drop. The Macbook Air is not upgradeable. I usually use my laptop at my desk at home and occasionally take it places.

If I were carrying it a lot, I would probably so with the lighter Macbook Air.

If you think that you will need a slot for inserting CDs then you should go with the Macbook Pro.

You should definitely take the macbook pro because he have much more memory and the processor is much more stronger. The pro is faster and stronger than the air, and you said that you want to use it for gaming and you need a strong computer for this so take the pro, and you'll definitely won't regret it!

Word documents for school, - Why pay a ton of money for something you can get on PC as well. Do some very simple photo and video editing and - Fine, I'll give this to the Mac, but Photoshop and a ton of photo programs are on Windows for cheap. I want to do some gaming, also - lol Gaming on a Mac... no.

Unless you plan on playing WoW, Diablo 3, TF2 and LFD (Anything Blizzard/Valve) then theres not much gaming to be had. Also, none of those have a graphics card that will play them smoothly, Intel HD is not good for gaming. I will surf the web, - Any PC can do this.... Linux or Windows... iTunes and stuff like that - iTunes is also on Windows... Im not trying to change your mind, but Im just saying be sure you want to pay over 1,549.00 € before you realize you could have an extremely fast PC with full photoshop, iTunes, and a decent graphics card for gaming.
