Yes, raising the debt limit is a simple up or down vote, but the GOP and Tea Party have turned it into an ideological argument they have no chance of winning.
They aren't using this vote to "get their way". It's an honest proposal that has be debated, occasionally slandered, and then not passed. This whole fiasco is nothing but partisan politics all around, with each party to blame.
Obama and the Senate Democrats have sworn not to approve anything the Republican House sends them, and the Republicans are unyielding on Democrat proposals. Personally, I thought their proposal was a pretty good start. But don't kid yourself.
They aren't holding anyone "hostage", they aren't trying to kill anyone or anything to "get their way". As the saying goes, it takes two to tango; neither side is cooperating. Your inference of not negotiating in your last sentence there is just more proof of that.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
