A melting pot of names? (long question)?

I am in complete agreement with you. I personally prefer names that are easy to spell and pronounce, and aren't too out there. I would want my kid to have a nice normal name that people won't tease him or her for, and I would want it to age well, and look nice on a resume.

And I wouldn't want them to have a name that would be misspelled all the time. Obviously it depends on the name, but generally I don't think that it "looks right" when the name is different from the original spelling. I'm not talking about a simple Katherine/Catherine thing, where there are two legit spellings, I'm talking more about a girl named Charolette instead of Charlotte.

My rule is, I want the spellcheck in my Firefox not to pick it up! ;) I love your kids' names, and names I like are Charlotte, William, Alexander, Anneliese, stuff like that... Of course uniqueness would be a good thing, but only if the name is meaningful or pretty. I can't stand names like Breighlynne and names that are basically tacky and "substanceless" -- they're basically just meaningless because they're just a collection of sounds that sounds "cute!"

But the "cuteness" definitely isn't desirable after the kid turns 18... And the thing about the "uniqueness" is that it isn't really all that unique when you think about it -- the parent of Breighlynne just took "Bree" and "Lynn" and stuck them together and made the spelling more "unique." But who's to say there aren't six other parents on your street that ALSO happened to like those two sounds and stuck them together and named their kid the same thing? Obviously chances of this are low, but still...two sounds smooshed together doesn't make a name in my opinion... My favourite unique name is Linnea -- it means "twin flower" and it's pronounced lyn-AY-ah.

I think it's really pretty and meaningful, but I would only use it if I had twins...which isn't likely. I really can't find many unique names that I like. Unique is good, but yooneek isn't, in my opinion.

;) As long as the kid won't get teased or have to struggle through paperwork, then I'm all for it! But yes, for me, generally, it's traditional name with a traditional spelling, all the way. :) Hope this helped!

I choose Traditional Names spelled in the Traditional Fashion. Why? Because not only do they look and sound better but, really, there is no need for non-traditional names.

Most of the non-traditional names we see today such as Addysyn and Emilleigh were created on the spur of the moment by bored, simple-minded parents (be they celebrities or otherwise) who decided that the traditional names and spellings just weren't good enough for their darling spawn. And thus begun the trend of transforming old, highly respectable names into 'yuu-neek' and 'ultra kewl!' names like Kortlinn and Emberlynn. They have no real meaning, depth or history to them, they sound terrible, they look absolutely atrocious and no one with an IQ level above 2 is going to be able to spell them 'correctly.' But the worst of it is that a vast majority of the new-age 'trendy' names aren't appropriate for anyone, boy or girl, over the age of ten.

For example; Shylark and Skylar seem to be hitting it big recently. I admit that Shylark would look adorable on a little girl, as would Skylar on a little boy - but what about after the 'little' stage? How cute would Shylark look on a woman of 45?

How adorable would Skylar look on a man of 50? The correct answer is 'not at all! In fact, they'd look absolutely ridiculous!' - But the makers and indulgers of such monstrosities are incapable of tapping into the Foresight Gland that every respectable and responsible parent has, and thereby soldier on with their name-picks unawares or perhaps uncaring of the fact that, in less than twenty years time, their precious babies will look oh-so-stupid.

On the whole, I think there are only two positive things to come from non-traditional names. The first being; how good will your son look with a name like (*Edit* for example) Lennox Nathaniel beside a boy with the name Rorry Quinn? XD Secondly, for all those who suffer from such demeaning names; a lack of expectation will follow you for the rest of your life.

I mean; your normal, average, everyday person would look at a woman named Kristilynn and not expect much intelligence to lurk within the confines of her presumably empty mind - am I right? And if you had to trust all your life-savings to Jasmine and Alice or Jessilynn and Gwendolyn, which pair would you pick based solely on the premises of their names? Well, I think I've made my point.

But just to hammer it in a final time, when it comes to naming my future babies, I'll take Hadrian and Lucille over Locklyn and Traylor anyday!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
