After listening to Enders Game from Audible should I get the next book Speaker of the Dead or Enders shadow?

I think it depends on you. Enders Shadow is a revisiting of the Enders Game book. Its very close to being the same story at times, but its very much a different story as well.

If you want to delve deeper into the Enders Game story itself then read Enders Shadow for a whole new look at things. However, Enders Shadow has a few sequals of its own and they spin you right out of the plot line of the original Ender books. In my opinion its best to finish the original Enders series first, and then go back and start the Shadow series.

They both take you into completely different directions. And of course, the Shadow series is stuck on earth and involves mostly earth politics, while the Ender series stretches out through time and into other galaxies.

Ender's Shadow, or rather the Shadow Saga, is a different, almost spin-off series from the Ender series, that tells the story from a different person's perspective. Speaker of the Dead is the next book in the Ender series, so I think that would be the more correct choice to go to after Ender's Game. Then you should probably move on to Xenocide and Children of the Mind, though they're somewhat different from the previous two books.

Though the author, Orson Scott Card has said that the books can really be read in any order (save for Xenocide, he says that should be read before Children of the Mind).

I've listened to the complete series and loved it. Take notes because the plot has alot of history as it unwinds. The plot is amazing.

Definitely listen to the complete series. hatrack.com/osc/books/shadowofthegiant/s... (The most important book in the series - Reveals the complete power plot ) hatrack.com/osc/books/firstmeetings/firs... (The secret to Ender genius and how his parent meet).

Enders shadow. It takes place at the same time, (being a parallel with bean as the main character) while speaker for the dead is set far in the future with none of the same characters, so it is almost another series. Orson did a good job in enders shadow at keeping the same basic story from becoming boring. It is another book in its own right.

Hope that helped! :).

It kind of depends on how you read. Enders Shadow gives a lot of different background information on the book Enders Game with a different perspective too. Speaker of the Dead is basically just a continuation of what Ender has been doing since the buggers were killed.

Overall, I think that Enders Shadow is probably the better book, just because at Speaker of the Dead the whole series gets really weird.

I disagree with the last response. The series is VERY VERY good, and should be listened to/read in its entirety. Additionally, from what I know there is only one book left to be published that will complete the series, and it is due out in 09.

I listened to the books in the chronological order in which they took place, not by release order. This felt comfortable for me. The only caveat is that "Ender in Exile" was just released a few months ago, which takes place immediately following Ender's Game.

Not sure if it is released on audiobook yet. The wikipedia article on the series has the books listed in both release order and chronological order, so you can choose. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ender%27s_Game_series.

Your third and best choice is to just stop with Enders Game, appreciate it for the classic it is, and never read any of the others. Card will keep churning out Ender books until even the most ardent fan will see a new one on the shelf and with a sigh of disgust groan, "*another* one? " Think of them like There should have been only one.
