If you are ever worried about the types of communication that your phone is initiating then you can always simply turn on Airplane Mode. This turns off all forms of communication, and protects the battery usage as well. So I would recommend turning it to airplane mode, flip on any App you want, and rest assured that absolutely no data will slip through in international waters.

If you like the option of having some cellular connection (in case of emergency phone call) the only other option is to turn off Data Roaming. This in theory ensures that if you are 'roaming' and off your network, that it won't access data services. This can be found in "Settings" --> "General" --> "Network" --> "Data Roaming".

Turned to Off you shouldn't see a spike in your bill. This does leave the option of your phone using networks that it thinks are in plan, and potentially leading to a mistake. However it should protect you while in international waters.

I tried just turning Data Roaming on while cruising, and I noticed my battery died quite quickly. My kids at home needed to be able to contact me just in case, and so it was my option. I added the $4.99 International package to my AT&T bill a month before I traveled, and I took 2-3 phone calls while on the ship.

The 3 phone calls were while far from shore, and I was only billed my regular minute rate... I had Data Roaming turned on, and no app, or voicemail, or e-mail usage was reported. So I think the feature is somewhat reliable, but there's always a chance that something could go wrong. So Airplane mode = Safest.

Data Roaming Off = Probably safe enough. Kindle App does have the potential for accessing data if you click to browse available books for purchase. Even the slightest bit of requested data could be quite costly, so be sure to use one of the two methods to protect yourself while on vacation.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
