Well, that is a big "if" I guess. But if we follow the hypothetical, we can consider what the scenarios might be in which soccer might make it into the top three. The obvious one to me is changes in US culture and demographics brought about by immigration and other population trends. So in the future it seems certain that there will a larger spanic and Asian population within the US, and maybe also to a lesser extent larger Eastern European and African populations.
Now those are all groups that love soccer, so we could see them helping propel soccer to a greater prominence in the US. Since the US population is rising, the scenario described above need not mean that an existing sport has to lose any fans or revenue. But rankings are rankings, and if a new kid moves into one of the top three slots, by definition, one of the biggies must drop down the rankings.
Well as far as I can make out, American Football is #1 in terms of viewers, and Baseball #2. So we could maybe expect Basketball to slip into #3.(Attendances differ, because number of games played differs.) It might also be relevant that some of those rising demographic groups are likely to be less interested in American Football and Basketball than Baseball. Lastly, apparently soccer is the #1 participation sport in the US for children up to age 13, and is played equally by both boys and girls.(Hence the phrase "soccer mom" appearing in the language, rather than say "baseball mom".
) This suggests that the scenario you suggest is not so far-fetched after all. People's sporting passions and allegiances are formed at a very young age, so it is quite plausible that people that played soccer at age nine may grow up to watch it, and to follow the same team all their life that they took an interest in then. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_in_the_Unit... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports_att....
As of now soccer is hard pressed in nosing out any of these established sports in the United States. But we can never tell, since football already captured the hearts of billions of people around as well as the majority of nations in the planet. Definitely not the American Football, the name of the sports alone will imply that this game is American as it is.
The sports are very exciting and very grueling too, and this kind of game, which offers a no holds barred action throughout a game, will definitely be an untouchable among the three sports mentioned here. Not Basketball definitely. The salary of the professional basketball players will tell us that the NBA league has enormous followers and supporters. It is exciting and this sports is surrounded by great players that are not only popular in the United States but also in the whole world.
I think baseball will get the boot, in my opinion.
I don't think it is a zero-sum game. I believe that any growing popularity of soccer in the US will bring new people into the sports-watching population rather than take away eyes from the other major sports.
Soccer will never break into the top 3 in the United States because Football,Baseball, and Basketball are all top favorite sports by Americans. These three sports are the top 3 money making sport organizations. With so much young talent, big names in these three sports with the money these sports make Soccer has no chance breaking into the top 3.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
