Any advice on publishing a childrens book?

Wow! Congratulations! Thank you so much for the compliment on my hubs!

I am proud of you for writing that book and sending out the queries. As far as getting self-published, I personally think it's a rather good idea. When my book was published in 2001, I had gotten my copyright with the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.And that was what got publishers to contact me, asking me to pick them to publish my book!

One of the publishers was Dorrance, one was 1st Book Publishers (which is no longer in business) and I can't remember the third one. Anyway, I had to choose the one that I thought had the best package deal in publishing me and picks 1st Book. I had to pay them $1000 in order to get published and saved myself $350 by editing my book myself!

I even wrote up my own press release and friend of mine printed the covers and little business cards to put in them, free of charge, which is a fortunate and rare occurance all in itself! I never sent query letters because, at that time, it was easier for me to pay them to publish me than to take the effort of all the query letters. That is why I am so impressed that you sent so many of your own queries!

Now that I am published, 1st Book Publishers was bought out by another company in 2002 and that company (Author House) wanted me to pay them a yearly fee to keep my book on the currently published list! There was NO way I was going to pay a fee to keep my book published after paying $1000 to get it published to begin with! In 2005, I met my current boyfriend and he found a site called Lulu.Com that allows you to self-publish there.

It is inexpensive and personally, the next book I write will more than likely be published through Lulu. I think it's way easier and less expensive than to pay a publisher $1000. There are other self-publishing companies out there but I honestly haven't looked into them all that much.

Found this in a magazine I just bought called Writer's Yearbook 2011.

First try blogging a little. If you get a good response, develop the book. I would suggest a concept that can move across platforms - print, online, games, toys etc.A publisher gives your market access and that cannot be bought by self-publishing.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
