$10 says it never happens. I like Ayn Rand a lot, and in particular Atlas Shrugged, but I'm pretty skeptical about the chances this movie has of making it all the way to the big screen. First of all, can you even imagine translating such a sweeping storyline into an hour and a half?

It's bound to lose the sense of slow but inevitable decay that is such a huge part of Atlas Shrug oddbob's Recommendations Atlas Shrugged Amazon List Price: $20.00 Used from: $8.95 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5 (based on 1387 reviews) .

Looking forward to it! The proposed cast is great, and chopping an epic book down to movie script size will, well, help. Not to be overly critical, but Rand could have made her points with subtetly and brevity - rather than with 40 page explanations of each point.

I agree with lot's of her points, but really, "brevity is the soul of wit". But at it's heart, it's the story of exceptional people falling in love and escaping from 'normal' society. It also makes strong arguments from property rights and intellectual property rights, and considering recent Supreme Court decisions, maybe it wouldn't hurt the american population to be reminded that we are not entitled to buy or take something from someone else, just because it's available.

I think the themes all still work, and the core love story will hold it up. Also they got the screenwriter from Braveheart, so we know he can put a few words together. I plan to be there opening night.

It is such a broad stroke of literature, I cannot imagine it yet as a movie. The fact that it took this long to even propose it makes it seem that I'm not the only one. But someone finally did!

But the only specific was that Angeline Jolie was being cast as Dagny Taggart. Randall Wallace is doing the screen play, which is nearly complete, and production is scheduled to start this year. He has done some other philosophical type movies pretty well: Brave Heart, The Man in the Iron Mask, Pearl Harbor, We Were Soldiers. So, maybe he's the right guy.

I'm afraid that they will totally change the story like they did with "Children of Men", although the essentials did not change in that movie. Sources: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_shrugged .

I'm not too excited about it ... but I'll probably still see it anyway. I'm an Ayn Rand fan, and especially love "Atlas Shrugged". I'm not so sure about Angelina Jolie playing Dagny.

I have not been interested in viewing any movie that she has been in, and I wasn't too impressed with the one movie that I did watch (Girl Interrupted). However, I can't come up with a good actress for the role myself. When I was discussing the movie with my husband, he said he read that it was rumored that Brad Pitt was being considered for the role of John Galt.

Sure enough, variety. Com has the rumor on their site. Brad Pitt is another one of those actors that I just kind of think of as "blah", and I have seen a few of his movies.

I just see this movie as being a showcase for the "hot Hollywood couple" instead of being about the story and I would hate to see the meaning of "Atlas Shrugged" lost in the hype. I have read "The Fountainhead" and tried to watch the 1949 movie but just couldn't get "into" it. I had my own preconceptions of the characters and could not accept Gary Cooper as Howard Roark.

1 Wow ... I wrote five paragraphs in that answer and they just got lost somehow. That's really annoying. I guess here's the short version of what I was saying:1.

Hollywood tries all the time to make adaptations of literary works, and LotR not withstanding, a lot of them never get made and those that do are not usually that great. A Confederacy of Dunces has been "in production" for almost 20 years. Catch 22 finally got released but was so weak as to be all but forgotten now.

The problem is, like Atlas Shrugged, a lot of the story isn't in the events in the plot, it's in the tone and mood of the writing. It's hard to translate that into a movie.2. I am bored by the idea of Angelina Jolie as Dagny Taggert.

You can almost hear the discussion that nominated her. "What's the scariest woman we can put on screen who is still hot enough to sell tickets? " Barf.

I would have much rather seen a more gifted actress less typecast to the role. I think Nicole Kidman would make a really interesting Dagny, for example - or even Charlize Theron, though they'd have to do a fair amount of makeup and wardrobe magic to tone down how outrageously hot she is.3. Even with the qualms I have, I'll still probably go see it if it ever comes out.

I'm definitely curious.

Do you think she contradicted herself as a Republican?" "Are Ayn Rand and Rep. Paul Ryan two birds of a feather? " "What books would you recommend if I love all of Ayn Rand's novels?" "Is the movie "Atlas Shrugged" and accurate depiction of politics in America?" "Have you read Atlas Shrugged?

If so, why did you like or dislike it? " "Why is atlas shrugged so popular today?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
