Yes, the book is much better than the movie. I love King's books and movies but some how the stories never seem as scary on screen as they are in your mind. Swine flu is definitely not Captain Tripps. It seems like once a year or so we have to hear about the new disease that is going to kill us all.
Remember West Nile, SARS, Bird flu, etc. Im not saying there is no danger at all, but the media does make a living bring bad news to us, so on some level it must be what the masses what to hear.
GREAT book and great TV mini-series. LONG book and LONG TV mini-series. The made-for-TV movie is where I fell in (figurative) love of Gary Sinise.
Of course, when there's any "epidemic" it's going to parallel books. Why do you think King wrote it? To scare the bejezus out of us.
And that is EXACTLY what we're doing to ourselves. If you have nothing else better to do, then you can worry about it. Otherwise, wash your hands and don't touch your face (eyes, mouth, nose) with your hands.
Make sure someone doesn't sneeze on you...
I did read that book (AMAZING book, by the way). I don't think swine flu is anything like the superflu that was portrayed in that book. And personally, I don't think the media is doing anything to us except for giving us what we want.
Swine flu outbreaks drive ratings, and so they're going to continue their nonstop coverage until we stop watching. Having said that, I do think this is also a legitimate threat. There have been what, 200 deaths from the swine flu in Mexico?
If we were to get a strain that's as bad as theirs and people started dying in scores in the US, obviously this should get that much attention.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
