Anyone have any tips or advice for relieving pain due to carpal tunnel syndrome?

Congratulations on the future new baby! As far as the relieving the pain due to the carpal tunnel syndrome, have her try wearing a magnetic bracelet or a magnetic necklace. They work very well to relieve pain.

I wrote a hub on this recently. You might want to check it out for further information about magnetic bracelets. allenwilliams.hubpages.com/hub/Are-There-Me.

My sister-in-law had this very situation recently; and mine has flared up worse than ever with a new job. I can only suggest that she wears her brace(s). I get good relief with it, especially at night. My CP was so bad that I couldn't sleep.

I never knew that numbness, when intensely severe, becomes pain. I'm not sure of any medication that can be taken for it. I suggest that she avoid all surgery and opt for doctor-administered cortisone shots (only if necessary).

Just had one right in the heel of my hand--ouch! Hope this helps. Oh yes, congratulations dad!

In addition to the general pain killers and wrist/brace supports, there are special exercises that you can do. These not only help to relax the muscles but also help to decompress the nerves affected with this condition and so relieves the pain. The exercises are call Range Of Motion (ROM) exercises and you can find these for free on numerous internet sites that give information on your condition.

One of my work colleagues did try these exercises and carried them out as instructed and he felt he definately got a good deal of relief from them. What you also need to be aware of though is actions or movements that either cause CTS or aggrevates it and avoid these situations at all cost. Even although you may get pain relief, the condition is still present.

Thanks for your response guys. Thanks for the congrats ithabise - hope you're not suffering too bad yourself - I don't think meds are an option until after the baby but perhaps a brace for nightimes may be helpful. Thanks for the info on ROM exercises Seeker7.

I will do some further googling and research and pass your advice on to my wife.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
