My impression about Mahaloans is that the majority of users know what they've heard and have not done any additional thinking or research. Sometimes I post questions just to get people to think. For instance, I once asked if encouraging uninformed people to vote was good, and the general reaction was "More voters is better!" instead of discussions of the ramifications of uninformed voting.
I find interesting political views in books and articles, but not typically from Mahalo. I keep up with politics as much as possible, because I believe that political ignorance is one of the major forces destroying America today. When a politician says, "I'm here to solve your personal problems," only the naive believe that he can actually do that.
Unfortunately, more and more people hope for government solutions, despite historical and global evidence to the contrary. We all want clean air, clean water, full stomachs, quality educations, good health, plenty of money, etc.We know that many bills that governments pass have apparently good intentions but do not solve these problems. We have to take responsibility for improving our lives and not hope that government will take other people's money to do it for us.
That's my political opinion: government cannot improve your life as well as you can yourself. No one on welfare is rich, few on medicare are content, and few love public education. It's America: pursue happiness; don't ask for taxpayers to hand it to you.
I actually follow politics a lot. Probably as a result of me really wanting to become a politician one day. There is no one person here on Mahalo I pay attention to but many who I listen to for insightful political opinions.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
