Anyone suffer from any serious side effects taking anti-depressants?

My doctor prescribed one for me to try, and the list of possible side effects is unbelievable! And even in some cases, contradictory, saying, may cause insomnia in one place, and may cause sleepiness or tiredness in another. I'm just wondering if it's worth it.

I had a bad experience with trying another anti-depressant a few years ago, and it made me worse, which is why I've steered clear of them. Anyone have any advice or experiences that may be helpful? It made me like a zombie. I took it for 3 days and all I did was sleep. I had absolutely no appitite at all.My Father on the other hand really needed to be on them because he felt like dying, he did get dizzy and drowsy so his doctore had him take only a half of one a day.

Maybe thats what you could do. So far it has been really working for my Father although the mornings he says it makes him feel wierd. I really need to be on an anxiety pill but I am scared to take it since I am medication sensitive and everything I take drugs me out.

Sometimes you have to try a few different kinds... until you find the one that's right for you. My doctor prescribed Lexapro for me and I'm very happy with the results. I also have had problems with sleeping.

I'll tell you what my doctor told me about antidepressants: he said it's a bit like painting a picture i.e. , the shading of the spectrum for each patient. Since I was having trouble sleeping, he said that Prozac wasn't right for me.

Instead, he recommended Lexapro at the beginning of the day and Doxepin at bedtime. Try whatever your doctor recommends, then wait and watch. I would wait a few months before making a decision.

Good Luck! .

The infamous incident was some years ago. A youth at puberty was put on Prozac, despite warnings. Apparently, the drug plays havoc with a developing-puberty body and mind.

The kid went from calm to psychotic and killed his family. He's in jail, having lost the contention that the goofy doctor's making him take a psychoses-inducing medication was the cause. I almost think being depressed is preferable.35 years ago, my mom suggested we see a therapist (this was one of many ways of trying to arrange ways in which I was wrong while she was the actual problem.) Anyway, one of the effects of this suggestion I went along with was getting medication.

It was supposed to deal with my anger (which was frustration over a paranoid schizophrenic for a mom. ) Anyway, the medication made me feel horrible, so I threw it down the toilet (you're welcome, fishies!) Add 35 years of better medical and pharmacological technology to that and I could see going on a murder spree.

Yes. . Not me, but several people I know.

In general the problems are personality related. Several people commented on "not being themself anymore." Of course there are also the other minor things that come with any change in medication.

. Insomnia, excessive sleepiness, changes in appatites, etc. Honestly I don't really favor medication except as a solution of last resort. You might do some research into light-therapy (Which is far more mainstream than it sounds!) as a non-drug option.

1 Karen based on your previous experience approach this with caution. Do what you doctor says, try it. But set your own bench marks as to what comfortably works for you and what doesn't.

Drug companies are bound by law to list all side effects even those that are remote. You may, and say may, get one or two or maybe none. Test it.

Take one. Measure yourself. If it seems OK then try a second one.

If at any point you start to become uncomfortable or something isn't quite right, STOP. You may have zero problems and find that it helps a lot. If it does...... I'll be in touch.

LOL I know you understand that.
