Gotta love consumer reports If my memory serves, Consumer Reports did a study on air purifiers and they were not at all impressed with any of them - not even the really expensive Sharper Image ones. You might want to check there. Many of CR's ratings can be found online for free, though specific brand recommendations usually require a subscription.

Sharper image sells these crappy ones that were recently reported in consumer reports to actually make air less clean. Just get a simple fan/filter system, not an ionizer/deionizer, which will create ozone.. google "sharper image ozone filter consumer reports" etc. To see the big legal battle going on over these. Remember, creating extra ozone in your house is NOT good!

A Disrecommendation I decided that the Sharper Image filters were too expensive, so I got a knockoff one. I got what I paid for; cheap plastic, and a strong ozone smell when it's running. Sources: surroundair.com/ .

I can tell the difference when in a car I use the IonicBreeze from Sharperimage. Though I cannot tell the difference at home, in my car, it removes the smoke smell. And thus, making me to believe it does remove some bad things in the air.

However, do not pay horrendous prices for the Ionic Breeze. They go down to as low as 75% off, which is probably the right price for it anyways.
