I totally know how you feel. I'm a junior now in AP Biology (which I highly recommend for you since you loved honors and did extremely well). I took AP Chem last year.
It was like hell in a classroom. I had taken Honors Chem that summer and barely scraped by, and decided try the AP class anyways. I would stare at the board and see a jumble of letters and numbers.
Nothing made sense at all. I was too chicken to go to help, which is really stupid, so I'm glad you went for help. We have very good teachers here so not getting the best grade was completely my fault.
Even though I totally didn't get anything at all I managed to get a B+ and a 4 on the exam. My mediocre scores totally weren't worth the stress. Anyways, if your teacher doesn't make things clear, there really isn't anything you can do about it, besides getting a tutor.
If you really want to stay in honors, get a tutor. It may cost more money and time but if you're determined to take honors, that's what you'll have to do. There's also very good chemistry supplement books by Princeton Review and Barons to name a few.
Taking honors biology and then regular chemistry isn't really dropping down. They're two different subjects. You are already in an honors and AP class, so you have quite a big load.
Dropping down might be a good idea for the sake of your sanity and grades. I would also like to add that chemistry is actually quite important for AP Biology. So it is important to do well in any chemistry class.
If you want to expand on chemistry later on and take an AP course, it would be extremely hard if you just take regular chem. But AP Bio would definitely be doable with regular chem material. If you're more interested in biology, it's not important to take the most challenging chemistry class.
As long as you take one and do well in it, colleges will see that you have a basic and good (if you get a good grade) foundation. Don't stress yourself out. You'll just end up having a miserable sophomore year.
Good luck! Edit: Dropping down will not give you an F. As long as you do it soon before the quarter ends, it won't even appear on your transcript.
If you drop it you get an automatic F for that class. Try to talk to your counselour to see if you can switch classes.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
