This is just my personal preference, but I say you should learn Java first. Java's relative simplicity hides certain things from the user and just allows you to program things without having to worry about certain and finer details. Anything you learn from Java is easily transferable to C++, as Java was initially designed to be a more "friendlier C++" (not completely true, but Java was intentionally designed to be simpler while having C/C++ syntax).
In the end, as it is said, just start on something and worry less about details when you're beginning. You can only learn when you get started. Whatever you choose doesn't really matter so long as you are willing.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
