DTaP and Tdap are similar, but they are not the same. DTaP vaccines are approved for a series of 5 doses in children 6 weeks through 6 years of age. Tdap vaccines are only approved for one dose in persons 10 years of age and older.
DTaP vaccines contain about the same amount of tetanus toxoid as Tdap vaccines, but more diphtheria toxoid and pertussis antigens. We would not expect DT and Td vaccines to be removed from the market. These vaccines are used when the pertussis component is contraindicated.
