The Hebrew word "yom" translated into the English “day” can mean more than one thing. It can refer to the 24-hour period of time that it takes for the earth to rotate on its axis (e.g., “there are 24 hours in a day”). It can refer to the period of daylight between dawn and dusk (e.g., “it gets pretty hot during the day but it cools down a bit at night”).
And it can refer to an unspecified period of time (e.g., “back in my grandfather's day...”). I have no opinion on Joachim of Flora as to whether he was inspired by the Holy Spirit or not. Neither do I concern myself with chronology or trying to foretell when prophetic events will happen.
All I know is that God's timing is always perfect, so it's not anything I ever worry about. Having said all that, take a look at the link below which discusses a prophecy in Daniel and the significance of "years" with regard to when the instruction was given to rebuild Jerusalem till the time when the Messiah would be "cut off." It is significant that the date the Witnesses cling to - 607 B.C. (in order to back up their predictions about 1914) - is wrong.
Perhaps they are waiting for "new light" on that, given it's almost 100 years since they claim Jesus took up his heavenly throne and started ruling invisibly?
The Bible contains too many things. You cannot generalize and say that everywhere it mentions 'day' it means a year or a thousand years. In fact, the Bible itself provides the context in the verses you have cited that these are prophetic days.
That doesn't mean you can take the prophecy of 70 years of Babylonian captivity and convert it into days and then convert them into years. It won't work. The God who gave His word also gave us the brains to figure out what the Bible is trying to say by "searching" the scriptures.
If it were not so people would not be misusing the Bible to prove the Bible wrong or support unbiblical doctrines. So it is important not just to read the Bible but how to read it.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
