Burb Austin has quite a few reputable car rental agencies from Round Rock all the way down I35 to Buda. As with most any major city though, the airport is about the best place to rent a car as the rates are most reasonable and the rental and return process is much faster. Recently when I rented a car in Austin, I was in north Austin and by the time I got to the counter, had the customer service rep finish his phone call, and got my paperwork processed, I could have driven the 20 minutes to the airport and picked up a rental there.
