Yes I would, I also am in favour of becoming a republic. Those how argue we shouldn't change the flag are ignorant of the flag's history the flag we fly today is not the same as the one adopted in 1901, it has a similar content but it has been changed over the years. Add to that the inclusion of the Union flag was mandated by the British government as a condition of them allowing Australia to adopt a flag of our own, so in effect the Unions flag symbolises our continued submission to Britain.
I was born here 70 years ago and consider Australia my home and would never want to live anywhere else. People talk about dying for the flag in wars BUT I think that is wrong - People have fought for this nation of peoples and the land NOT a flag. A flag is just a symbol and it has the Union Jack on it and that reeks of Imperial England who treated Australia as a dumping ground for Convicts - don;t forget that Winston Churchill during WWII was happy for us to be invaded by the Japanese and it took our Prime Minister John Curtin to stand up and bring some of our soldiers home to defend Australia.
Don;t forget that it was Britain that stopped giving Australia favoured status in Britain. I think it is time we became a Republic and changed the flag to something identifying with this land - by all means keep in the southern cross if possible but it is time for a change and showed the world we are not living in Britain's shadow.. regards Mike D PS as for Makaweena's comment - is she telling us that the country can only do one thing at a time? Maybe we should wait until Labor are out of office because they would only stuff up the process.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
