There really is no good answer for this. I suggest that you constantly think about the larger context (the big picture) while reading the dense information. You don't want to get sidetracked by a couple of sentences.
I'll give you an example, and please don't take offense. You want to avoid doing what many christians do whereby they focus on a single verse too hard and not look at the whole thing while reading. As for studying technique, that's up to you.
Everyone is different. I would read the material through at first without writing anything down and do the practice problems if I had time. During lectures I wrote on printing paper (not just facts, but my thoughts/comments as well) and put them in a folder to be collated, punched, glanced over, and put in a binder later. It saved me a lot of time.
Other students had their own way to take notes and organize them. Edit... one last thing. I highly recommend you don't have distractions, not even music.
My favorite studying drink was iced tea, but anything to sip on or munch on helps. Make sure your diet is good. Having a studying partner or partners is beneficial.
Venue might help, too. For example, on campus, a lot of students preferred cafeterias and libraries. Good luck!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
