Well first of all, the US (under both parties) has never really liked democracy overseas. Democracy is messy and unpredictable, and you don't always get the result you want. We have used our military more than 100 times since WWII, and in every case it was to -subvert- democracy, to get the results we wanted.
Presidents of both parties have called this 'exporting democracy' but you wouldn't be able to point to a single new democracy we've helped create. We have -restored- democracy in previously democratic countries (like France and Germany), and a few of our 'client states' managed to create their own democracies after they got rid of the leadership we chose for them (like Greece, Chile, the Philippines), but we haven't participated in any new democracies. You can really see this in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We held elections in these countries in which only candidates approved by the US could run, and only voters approved by the US could vote. In both cases we had clear favorites and -surprise-, we got our pick in both countries! We call that 'democracy'.
As for Egypt (and Libya and Syria and . . .
) the Republicans want bad things to happen in these countries so they can blame them on Obama. The idea is that you can wake up in the morning, see bad news in newspaper headlines or Yahoo front page or on CNN or something, and then tune in to Fox or to right-wing talk radio and hear why all this bad stuff is Obama's fault. They like to attribute every bad thing that happens to Obama's failure or incompetence or outright evilness.
It's not working as well as it used to, partly because most Americans don't really care about what goes on on the other side of the world, and partly because the Repubs make it a habit to react with fake outrage at EVERYTHING Obama does or says or wants. So if Obama really did do something truly outrageous, how would you know?
I hate the idea of ANY country having a Democracy. Democracy is the worst form of government that there is. It is mob rule, it is 50% plus 1 person telling EVERYONE how things are going to be.
So, if 50% plus 1 person in a Democracy says "slavery is a good thing", guess what...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
