Are we prepared for disasters - such as earthquakes or tsunamis?

There is only so much preparation we can do based on predictive modelling. The recent earthquakes were large scale despite tsunami warnings and earthquake warnings no one anticipated the scale of the problem. This is the awesome power of nature and reminds us all we have built a house of cards on these shifting tectonic plates.

There are large scale disaster response systems but the media perhaps concentrates on tragedy rather than all the hard work emergency services and the army do to help....

Although I live in a supposedly non earthquake zone, we still can feel the shakes from a neighboring country's earthquake (if big enough). Have asked my friends in earthquake zone countries and also read about preparation for earthquakes, don't think much can be done, as no one can predict earthquakes. Don't think they can predict tsunamis either, other than putting tsunami alerts out when there is a major earthquake under the sea.

The answer for most people is no. Most people in the US can't believe a major disaster could hit this country or at least on a scale that we've seen in Chile, New Zealand or Japan. Many of us in tornado alley have put little to no thought in surviving a tornado.

Time to plan now. Plan on making going at least 3 days without outside help that includes food, water meds etc. Do you have alternate meeting place that you family can rally in the event your neighborhood is destroyed. Speaking of meeting places, where will your family meet in the event of a fire?

It beats dad running back into the house looking for someone who is already outside on the other side of the house. Time to plan it out before a disaster visits your town....

Most definitely not! We're no more prepared now than we were when Katrina hit the coast. It's sad, but it's true.

Folks know at any moment a huge wave could come crashing in on the Atlantic coast, and still they continue to build homes right on the beach. It's an act of insanity if you're not prepared to completely rebuild when your home is destroyed.

I think it's a no, my country is not prepared for times like this.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
