I have to admit I'm a bookstore person and I have too many books overflowing every room in my house to prove it. Asked by -layyla- 42 months ago Similar questions: library person bookstore prefer books Arts > Books.

Confessions of an Inveterate Bibliophile, or Borderline Bibliomaniac..... I am most DEFINITELY a book owner! It’s part of my nature. I used to borrow books from the library when I was in elementary school, and, later on, in high school.
I also used libraries as an adult. However, as soon as I started making my own money, I started buying my own books. I have always had an absolute PASSION for books. To me, they’re the world’s greatest treasures.
My favorite present, for any occasion, is, of course, a book! A book gift card is even better, because then I can go to any of my favorite bookstores, and pick out the books I want! I remember once, when I was about 11, going to a library with my mother.
I picked out a book of fairy tales, with a beautiful hardcover binding. Once I got home, I promptly proceeded to devour it. I had borrowed several others, but this one was my very favorite.
I actually grew ATTACHED to it........The days flew by, and I grew used to having the book in my bedroom, where I could delve into it whenever I wanted to. Then, lo and behold, it was suddenly time to return it.......I also remember that trip back to the library, again with Mom. I vividly recall my sadness at having to give up that treasured book..... Although, as I said above, I did go to libraries as an adult, I still felt a pang of sadness when the time came to return a book or books.
I then began to go out and buy those library books I especially liked. I simply couldn’t part with them.......This went on for several years, until the time came that I simply stopped going to libraries, except to browse, find a volume or two I enjoyed, write down the ISBN numbers, and then go to a bookstore to hunt them down. If they were not in stock, I would order them at Customer Service.
I haven’t had a library card in YEARS. Gradually I became more and more obsessed, until now I have a REAL addiction. Yes, I’m a bibliophile, probably a borderline bibliomaniac....... I have books EVERYWHERE in the house!
One of the living room couches is unavailable for its normal use, because it has stacks of these precious, precious objects on it....... Every so often, my husband will plead with me to do something about this, and I just give him a baleful look. I think I must have upwards of 3,000 books......this is a rough estimate. Where do I obtain them?
Of course, I order obsessively from Amazon, because I get very good prices, especially from their sellers. Also, it’s a very convenient way to buy. The downside is that I have to WAIT for the book to arrive....... I try to be patient, but this is very hard on me, because, once I decide that a particular book just HAS to be mine, I have to have it RIGHT AWAY.
So, to keep myself well-fed, I buy almost constantly. There are times that I will feel this sudden compulsion to run over to Barnes & Noble or Borders (whichever happens to be closer) to get a book. It’s an irresistible urge. Nine times out of ten, there’s a book waiting for me there.
It practically jumps out at me from a shelf, after I walk around the store a couple of times. There’s another excellent bookstore in my area, which is Miami, Florida. It’s named "Books & Books", and is an independent bookstore, although the owner has been slowly expanding.
He now has 4 stores -- one in Coral Gables (a city adjacent to Miami), one in Miami Beach, another in Bal Harbour (north of the North Miami area), and another in the Cayman Islands. Well, if I decide to go to the Caribbean on vacation next year, hmmmmm....... I love books as objects in themselves. Therefore, I will never purchase a Kindle (sorry, Amazon!
), because for me, part of the pleasure of books is holding them in my hands, smelling the paper and ink, admiring the cover artwork, and just basically enjoying it in its totality. This is impossible with a Kindle. Granted, the storage capacity of this machine is astounding, but it can never compete with the utter delight of having a book in one’s hands, turning the pages, and savoring the physical intimacy of the reading experience.
I even laminate my books myself. Yes, indeed! I buy rolls of transparent plastic, at either Walgreen’s (a pharmacy chain), or K-Mart.
Before actually covering the book with the plastic, I neatly print my name inside the front cover, so there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind that the book is entirely MINE. I then add the year in which I acquired the book. Last, I go ahead and carefully laminate it.
If the book is a hardcover, I frequently paste a bookplate inside the front cover, where it’s harder to remove. There is no doubt that the book is mine forever! I only wish I could take at least my favorite books along with me when I depart from this world!
I hope no one ever thinks of starting up a Bookaholics Anonymous, because I would never even get past the first step......... I much prefer to buy books from a good bookstore... ...and I have lots of pretty interesting books at home to prove it...I can spend hours in a good bookstore, whether I purchase anything or not. BUT, I have decided to tighten my belt a fair bit; and, books unrelated to my child’s education are unfortunately getting the axe. That means I have become a library person...again.
Of course, the reality is that I love libraries too, having worked in a major research library for over 5 years, back in the good old days when automation was only just beginning. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On a slightly related subject, what is the best bookstore in the US to buy these books we love? I don’t profess to know every good bookstore in the US.
I have sadly seen several close to economic pressures from the big guys. The following bookstore serves a major university and theological seminary. It is the best bookstore I have ever set foot in that is still open.
Needless to say, you don’t come here for the lattes. They have over 100,000 titles spanning the humanities and social sciences. Seminary Co-op Bookstore (in the Chicago Theological Seminary) 5757 South University Avenue Chicago, IL 60637 Sources: photos from Google Images .
Used bookstore person I used to be a library person. I lived less than a mile from a great library when I was growing up, being an only child with no children near my age close by, I read a lot. When I became an adult and married, I discovered used bookstores and library sales.
Now, well, can I say the books are taking over. I can’t begin to describe the feel of holding a book, leafing through the pages, reading it, savoring every word and then knowing it actually belongs to me. I used to love the smell of that library I went to as a child, and am now sort of duplicating it with my own collection of books.
Libraries are great but in the middle of the night when one can’t sleep there’s something about walking down stairs and picking up a random volume of my own and reading, knowing I can go back to that book at any time. I prefer used book stores and library sales because I generally spend about $1 a volume, sometimes I splurge and spend a bit more, for classic literature, non-fiction, history, mysteries and even the books on the best-seller lists. Amazing what you can find and the hunt is part of the adventure.
For anyone who might be interested, the library I enjoyed so much can be seen at: pequotlibrary.com .
Bookstore I know it seems crazy, but I like to keep my books...I like to keep them as resources and references. I have books EVERYWHERE...crammed on bookshelves, piles on the floor, on tables, and anywhere else you can think of. The only books I don't keep are novels...I pass those along to my friends.
We trade good books so we all can read them. Sources: my opinion .
Garage sale person here I love shopping garage sales for books. Not only do I find them cheap so I can buy more for my money, but you can talk to someone that just read the book. I come home on Saturdays with sack loads of books.
I also find some great books at Goodwill and other thrift stores marsvenk's Recommendations Garage Sale Gourmet: Streetwise Shopping for Fun, Profit, and Home Improvement Amazon List Price: $14.95 Used from: $2.90 .

German books library. 600 books inherited from my father. What to do with them?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
