I did both. I was a stay at home Mom until my son started school. When he went to school I went back to work only while he was in school.
I went back full time when he was 13, but only worked full time for 3 years. He is now 20 and has Friedreich's Ataxia (diagnosed at 13 right after I went back to work). Since it is a degenerative disease, he now needs one of us home most of the time.
I have started college after 30 years of being out of highschool. I have 1 more year to go for my Associates Degree in IT, Network Administration. Hopefully, I can return to work after school and give "Dad" time to be "Mom".
I thank God every day that I have been able to be home as mush as I have been with my son. I could not have another child and I will treasure every moment I ever have with my son. They grow too fast!.
I'm a stay at home mom... First I want to say I'm not sharing this to make other's feel bad. I understand why some moms choose a career. These are my personal thoughts... I married my husband late (I was almost 30).
But before that, I had to support myself, so I have been a career woman. My parents made sure I had the ability to support myself. I went to university, taught high school and then went on to the business world.
But when the time came to get married, I relied on my husband's support. My new role was to support him. He didn't demand this, it just came about after our wedding and moving to a new town, I didn't find a job.
I did some volunteer work. But was repeatedly turned down for administrative support positions because they said I was over qualified (I think they thought I wouldn't stick around). A few years later, we had our son.
I am so glad to be at this point in my life and know that my role is to be his mom and my husbands wife. I know I am doing what is best for my family. As I sit here, I am watching him discover how to do puzzles, and soon we will be off to mommy and me swim lessons!
So Yes I am enjoying my choice! .
Actually I am a bit of both. I had most of my career before I had kids. I was a museum curator and a scientist, careers I had planned on since I was a kid myself.
However, when my kids were little my husband and I both had to work in order to pay the bills. My husband's boss was a pain about men dealing with children but fortunately mine was understanding and, since I was on 24 hour call, I had some flexibility with my hours. I worked some weekends and in return got to go to school events during the week, and so on.
Eight years ago my husband had to retire on disability so he was the stay-at-home parent. Then he became too ill to drive but I was able to retire because I had enough years in. When I did I started an online business that I run when the kids are at school or otherwise asleep.
That means I can be there for everything my kids need and want to share. This is my fifth year and things are going pretty well. My daughter just started high school and my son just started middle school and still feels free to volunteer my help on field trips. So I did both.

I'm A SAHM and totally happy with my choice, but I was not totally happy with my job when I left it. Just because it's the right choice for me doesn't make it the right choice for everyone. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
