Anon! I agree with you that Mahalo should regulate its front pages (Answers, and the front-front page) in a way that reflects best on the website and the community. However, I don't agree with some of your reasons nor with some of your methods. It IS interesting that, simultaneously, some have been pushing Mahalo to ratchet down the focus on scantily-clad females (mainly) on the front-front page.
I think both that push and your push, have some merit to them. I also believe that Mahalo should be concerned with the opinions of its content contributors/community, even though the titillating pictures are designed to bring new people in. If core community members become disenchanted, the core will collapse (even if some new people do come in).
Not to mention that established community members bring a different and valuable perspective to the table. I think that @Valz has opened a lot of people's eyes about the potential for that "highest tipped" section. Especially coupled with the changes that give questions a 5-day life, typical questions stay on the front page for a short time, and get few views.
With a small investment, you can get lots of eyeballs and answers. Without some regulation, I can foresee businesses and/or other ministries and/or interest groups bidding up the price for that space. Mahalo doesn't gain from the increase in rent, and risks losing traffic if people weary of that area.
I think valz has an absolute right to continue to sow his seeds of discussion within the guidelines set up by Mahalo. I think he has handled himself incredibly well. I applaud him for his recognizing the opportunity given him (given all of us) by Mahalo.
By all appearances, he sort of slid into this "ministry" and has led the discussions very responsibly. I have answered/commented in a couple of them, and he has tipped-but-not-proselytized; I am not Christian. Despite this, I believe that the guidelines should be adjusted to ensure that Mahalo can remain a well-balanced garden of information.
So, Anon, I agree with your conclusion though not how you arrived at it. The irony of you opening with why you were posting anonymously, yet closing with a challenge to people to be brave enough to stand with you was masterfully done. I hope that Mahalo takes reasonable, content-neutral steps to ensure that the garden strives to be an askers' and answerers' paradise!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
