Some Buddhist writings (along with those of other Eastern religions like Hinduism) were already widely available in English translation by the mid-19th century. Ms. Eddy herself had read some of these books and quoted from them in her earlier writings.
Not surprisingly, their ideas influenced her and the "Christian Science" she founded. "The association of Christian Science with Eastern religion would seem to have had some basis in Mrs Eddy's own writings. For in some early editions of Science and Health she had quoted from and commented favorably upon a few Hindu and Buddhist texts.
She was a mystic. Christian mysticism should be investigated before any Christian considers Buddhism. The Eastern Orthodox preserve and practice the teaching of the earliest Christian Mystics best.
Catholics may investigate what is preserved in Tradition.
