There are anti-theists here and anti-atheists here. Each provoke the other, with a buzzing army of religious and atheist troll joy-riders in the middle. It's not a pretty scenario but it can at times be a lot of fun.
There's no good blowing up over it though when the idiocy and hate get to you because those who do these things won't listen to reason, and the rest of us can do nothing about it. There are hateful morons here, and as sad as it is that this is the case, only Yahoo could do anything about them. I'm an ex-Christian agnostic atheist, so it's likely you and I are on a similar wavelength when it comes to our reasons for disbelief.
I have a feeling though that any new evidence for belief will be a long time in coming. As I've got older I've begun to feel like I've heard all the arguments so any second awakening in me looks highly unlikely. R&S does little or nothing in the way of theological enlightenment.
Quite frankly 90% of the Christians here are either too fundamentalist to empathise with the other side's position long enough to pose a worthwhile debate, or the rest are too inarticulate to phrase the kind of questions needed to get me thinking. Having a background in studying human evolution I used to be quite happy explaining the questions that theists had on the issue, but I've long since grown cynical and can't be bothered answering them since half the time the question asker awards best answer to some idiot on the board who says: "evilution!?!? LOL.
Wut up with dem who think that's tru? GOD SAVES!" (I wish I was joking but I'm not) Many atheists here are no better. They're after quick laughs and posting one liners, gleeflly ripping someone to shreds on even the slightest misunderstanding they make.
Sad to admit it but I've kind of become one of them over time. Half the questions don't seem worth the effort to answer and looking for a witty retort becomes more important than actually answering the question. That said, I've never posted the sort of inexcusable hate you've highlighted as examples.
I do not ridicule people just because they believe. (I will ridicule them for universal stupidity though, regardless of belief). I certainly won't make it personal.
So, I do sympathise with your frustrations here, but really, I don't think you should get heated over it because it does you no good. It'd be like banging your head against a brick wall, and my advice is take time out when it gets too much. I do.
Otherwise the Theists will think you're just another lightweight atheist who can't take the heat, and the atheists will just label you a rant troll and move on unblinking. There are still users here who do debate properly, who do answer real questions and are willing to try to understand the other's position in a debate. You just have to watch for them, and not let the noise in-between get to you.
I don't have enough time to read your life story. Edit: But calling thousands of people with the same surname a hoe isn't really helping your argument much. Edit: But making fun of a very nice surname won't really hit me as funny.
Ok, you're not religious because you're not convinced, and you're open-minded and willing to convert with more evidence. What is there to respond? It was your choice anyway.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
