In all professional settings I've seen with makefiles, the dependencies were not added manually -- excepted for special cases involving tools like lex and yacc -- but created automatically, either using options of the compiler (like -MM of gcc), or by using various independent tools like makedepend or mkdep.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
