Black Sabbath.?

This is a very simple answer....one reason is because the bands are not touring or playing together in those off times between albums. You can't have a tight band if you take too much time away from each other. Some of the tightest bands I have ever seen are bar bands that have been together for a while and are playing five sets three days a week.

Second, look at what are considered the great albums of rock and roll history. The majority were recorded in a short amount of time, some in days. It's not so much not dwelling on it, but how can you come up with something great when it takes six months of studio time just to pick out the right chair to sit in while recording your guitar parts?

AAAAAAAnyway...... What's the point of answering if I agree with everything you said and have no other interesting counterpoints... It's been 5 years since Nevermore's This Godless Endeavor, and even though the new one had some interesting songs, it's not really sticking to me like the other albums did... the Dane and Loomis side projects were interesting, but in all honesty they didn't make the long wait any easier then again, in a genre centered around angst and anger, it's only natural that over the years bands mellow out and in a way lose their muse...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
