Cable TV box question - Mine has a USB port, did you ever hook up a computer to it? More details below?

More details below. If so, what happened? I have a DVR type cable box from Time Warner, and it has a USB port on the front.

If you hooked a PC up to it, could you download your recorded shows to the PC? I have some classics on it, I would love to view on my laptop while traveling, and don't want to pack my DVDs, but would love to view previously recorded shows from my cable box... please advise, and give details. I can provide model numbers and stuff, but I think the CONCEPT it what I'm looking for.

That's probably for an external HDD The USB ports on some DVR cable boxes (e.g. Scientific Atlanta) are for an external hard disk that can be used to increase the recording time of your DVR. However, your cable company, which controls all the settings in the box, may not have it enabled. Look at your cable box and try to find the manufacturer and model number.
