Can a 9v 1A wall wart be used to achieve roughly 17V 500mA, using 2 LM317 adj voltage regulators?

Get a boost buck converter from ti. Com, and get some samples. Should be possible to get one to work fr you, but it might be worth considering going to a computer market or similar and picking up a old power supply unit for $10 and it will do this for you, and you can boost the 12v to anything higher that's needed.

The LM317 can only reduce voltage, not increase it. An adjustable power supply will often switch between taps on the transformer to reduce the power dissipation in the voltage regulator. For example a common 12.6V center tapped transformer could use the center tap for up to 6 volts out and the full winding for up to 14 volts out.

(those are specific numbers) I just want to know if its possible to use 2 LM317 (or any voltage regulator) in series to achieve twice the volts (no Amp boost). I'm asking because I would like to create my own Adjustable power supply, but from reading (and some knowledge) its not good to use a 20v wall wart for a power supply that might only use 3.3v (too much heat even with a heat sink), but if I was to use a 9v I might need more then that say 10-15V.... I doubt I would really ever need more then 500mA for any projects I might do... Thanks Edit: I know that the LM317 can only decrease, but can't two of them be used serially to increase it? You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question. What is Your Answer?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
