I'm no expert, but I know several people who swear by taking melatonin. For me, I try a nice relaxing cup of chamomile tea.

There are two that works for me. One is Valerian or Valerian Root...I discovered it about 10 or 12 years ago. I would, like you fall asleep and wake up a couple hours later and couldn't fall back to sleep.

Valerian has a kinda unpleasant odor but it does not linger in your mouth or breath.... it may take it several nights to really get into your system but it seems to reset your body clock and you sleep great, if you wake up you go right back to sleep. The other one I discoveried just about a year ago it is call MidNite.... it is chewable and you can take it without water. The great thing about it is you can take it at any time during the night and wake up refreshed. It is so mild that I gave 1/2 a pill to my granddaughter when she was having trouble sleeping.

Works great. Both are natural and can be found in any drugstore. Hope this helps.

I've always had luck with melatonin -- and that's coming from someone who suffers from insomnia!

Thanks so much for your answers, I'll definitely look into these more and hopefully get a good nights sleep soon. Yawn! Lol.

I find Valerian root works best for me when I can't sleep. It's pretty gentle, it doesn't knock me out, but it helps me sleep through the night. Only thing about it is it's kinda (understatement) stinky. It can be made into tea or taken as capsules, but because of the smell, capsules work best for me.

Many friends have told me that melatonin worked for them as well, but it made my stomach hurt unfortunately, so I have very little experience with it.

I can share with you what works well for me, and that's 3mg. Of Melatonin, taken at bedtime. It gently relaxes you, allows you to sleep soundly, yet wake up with no groggy after effects.

A nice bonus is that it's a healthy supplement for many things! Google it and see what you think!

CalMag (calcium magnesium) helps calm the nerves and vitamin B complex, also. But without pills, I would recommend breathing excercises. I've found this very helpful when I couldn't sleep.

Several slow, deep breaths (in through the nose, out through the mouth), then slow, shallow inhale, fast exhale. This mimics the pattern of sleep breathing.

My dr. prescribed valerian root. I haven't taken it yet, so I can't say that it works.

Magnesium is known as the relaxation mineral. Magnesium is an important mineral needed by over 300 biological processes. Among its many benefits is to calm anxiety. So it may help you sleep.

Even if it doesn't work, you would still get benefit from taking magnesium. Even healthy people take magnesium. It is in most multi-vitamin and is safe.

Valerian root and or melatonin for sure. The only problem with the Valerian root is that it tastes and smells awfully disgusting. I mean, sometimes my hand stink after I touch it.

Other alternatives would be a nice warm glass of milk or some sleepy time tea. If you are waking up throughout the night, make sure that your bedroom is nice and dark. Even the light from an alarm clock can keep your mind from completely shutting off.

Melatonin. Its an over the counter herb. Takes a lil while to work, but after a couple of nights using it you should be fine.

I'm not sure if it's considered homeopathic, but Melatonin is a hormone and it really does work. It will help you snooze within a half hour to hour after taking and helps to reset your body clock after you've taken it a few nights in a row. Great during or after traveling, when your sleep pattern gets all messed up.

Calms Forte. You can get them at Walmart or health food store.

I recently actually wrote a hub about it hubpages.com/hub/Chamomile-tea-wondersNot advertising but it's got some facts and I have warned about when not to drink it. This may help without having to take tablets :)Good luck :).

You could try taking 1 spoon of honey in a glass of water before going to sleep. This acts as a sedative.

When I am worked up about something I have the same problem sleeping..I take KALMS or NYTOL available in most supermarkets ,non addictive and herbal.

If you can find it the best is tryptophan. The active sleep agent in turkey and some other foods. You used to be able to buy it from a number of sources as a supplement but I haven't seen it in years.

There was a tryptophan scare but the problem wasn't with tryptophan it was the inert carriers that it was mixed with. So scan the list of ingredients and look for it.

A warm cup of linden tea will help you. I would also suggest you exercise during the day and watch your chocolate, coffee and caffeine intake. After 4:00 be careful of excess sugar or sweets.

If you're stressed or worried about something, that may be your problem. Everyday write it all down and make a habit of it; if you do everything listed consistently you should be okay.

I had the same problem and I have been recommended a lot of sleeping pill I found one that has helped me a lot by chance its herbal its beneficial and vigor rousing.

I agree with those who advice about tea... it's really relaxing specially chamomile or green tea as well as you can put dried lavender inside your room. The lavender aroma is relaxing and there is something that can trigger to your brain to let you sleep. I think I've heard/watched it at Grow Your Own Drugs program.

Exercise is a wonderful way to relax. Have you tried yoga?

First of all, try to avoid medication, instead try a tea every night before going to bed. Also if you can have dried lavender, put those in a pillow bag, a small pillow bag and put it near your head upon lying down. Also, try to relax your mind when you're about to sleep.

I don't take anything specific but I often have bouts of sleepless nights and my husband will usually pick me up something OTC. I have tried natural remedies but they don't seem to work for me. I suppose it's different for everything.

Either way, good luck and sleep well soon!

Yup there are many thing you can do, take some magnesium malate before you go to sleep, this will help you relax. You might have alot cortosil in your system because of stress, so you can stop this by taking ester C. Meditation has been shown to have powerful effects on the brain in terms of stress response.

You should meditate consistently everything. There a sleeping pill called sleep md, its an all natural product. You should also get a professional massage, to help you relax.

I hope it works out, good day!

I personally don't recommend pills. Just workout hard. Take a good shower.

Take a boring book and I bet you will sleep like a cat after that.

Um cooling the brain really helps. Insomniacs have a higher-than normal brain activity, so the brain is "too hot to sleep". There are special caps that cool the brain, but you can also improvise and cool the brain with something you have at home :P.

I always try to stay away from any medication. So I remember that when I was little my mother would give me warm milk with honey. But know I read in bed and after 2 or 4 pages I fall asleep fast...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
