Can Artifical Intelligence be used in counterfeiting currency?

I'm writing a novel in which my character commits a crime however he doesn't know that the money he's stolen, and lost, is being used for another purpose. A member on Askville suggested Counterfeiting currency as the "other" purpose, which intrigues me. Initially I had my character invest in a bogus company in the field of artificial intelligence.

Could/Would this technology be at all relevant for a counterfeiting operation (I can see it's application in counter-counterfeiting but I don't know about counterfeiting). Anyone know enough about AI to advise re there's any synergy between the two? If not, what technology is more appropriate for use in a currency counterfeiting operation?

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
