Black hair kind of wound it's way into Europe. Brown/Audborn is more of a natural color. In Greece, Italy, Southern France it's rather common and in many areas such as Sicily and Greece it's the norm.
Arab and Moorish blood in Spain makes black hair very common and blond and red hair uncommon but not rare. In Eastern Europe the Mongols and Huns brought Black hair to a group that was mostly Nordic, Slavic and or German. Especially in Northern areas of Russia, Ukraine, Poland, etc. In SE Europe Turks as well as Mongols, Huns, and potentially steppe tribes like the Alans plus many arab wives and slaves brought back from invasions of the area led to constant intermingling of blood.
The Turks would surge north, then be driven back while Europeans would surge South a couple hundred years later and back and forth. So in places like Bulgaria and Romania black hair is very common. In places like England and Ireland and Western Europe in general it was until recently uncommon but far from rare.
The "Black" Irish for example and no they have no African ancestry. Primarily Iberian blood is the leading theory of where the Black Irish came from. Which tends to suggest Northern African ancestry long before Arabs overran the area.
Spain, England and Ireland were settled by essentially the same peoples before invading Celts conquered all of Western Europe. Many of these traits live on in rural areas of these nations such as Iberia, Basques, remote areas of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, etc. While it was uncommon it's not unheard of historically in Germany, Sweden, Norway, etc. Likely mostly through marriages too survivors of Mongol and Hun invasions from Russia and Eastern Europe or from Romans who immigrated north. Genetic mapping is proving a very important tool in showing us how the various populations of the world were formed.
The Black Irish for example. Were once though to possibly be descended from survivors of the doomed Spanish Armada but genetic testing has shown this to be false. It will be interesting to see how much legend is proven/disproven by genetic mapping of the worlds population.
This is one of the areas that fascinate me about history. The way peoples have surged and waned over various lands and changed the makeup of the land, culture and population.
In spain they have naturally dark brown hair/maybe black.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
