No they should never be together despite what you see. Rabbits are bigger, stronger, and heavier built than chinchillas. They can so easily kill a chinchilla.
Furthermore, chinchillas don't really mix well with other animals, They end up being bitten and picked on, or vice versa. Rabbits also carry Pasteurella which is a bacteria that can very easily spread to a chinchilla, causing death. You shouldn't even put them in different cages in the same room.
I know you probably don't want to hear this, but they should not be put together. They will probably fight, and might really hurt themselves. They might both be sweet to you, but put them together and they will really hurt eachother.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
