Without reading tech bulletins, I would say don't. The way anti-lock brakes work is by comparing the rotation speed of all four tires. If one or more tires is turning faster or slower than the rest, the system assumes you are skidding, and activates the anti-lock mechanism.
If you mismatch the tires, to any significant degree, then you run the risk of confusing the system, and you will be in anti-lock mode all the time. You might be able to get away with narrow on the front, and wide on the back, if you maintain the same rolling radius, but there is no real benefit to that.
Touchy subject. Of course you can. But the odds are that is is not a good idea.
If you are going to a tire with the same loaded radius (same distance from the center to the ground), you might be ok if you don't significantly change the tire width. Like if you want to go from 14 inch rims to 16 inch rims. If you change the width of the tire or the loaded radius, you are going to mess up the steering geometry.
And you won't like the way it drives. Not to mention safety issues. Since tires change loaded radius as they wear, you can probably get away with a slightly taller tire.
But I would not change the width.
Not so much Doing so may confuse your ABS anti-skid braking sensors. They'll constantly see a pair of wheels going around faster than the other pair. Not to mention your speedometer will be off..
No You car takes a 185/65 R 15 size. Because the wheels are an integral part of the hybrid drive system, you cannot mix and match tires and wheels on these cars. However, you can replace all 4 tires with alternate sizes at the same time.
You can also use an aftermarket wheel with your car. Here is a good place to get more information: tirerack.com/tires/SelectTireSize.jsp?au... There are optional tire/wheel packages available in 16" and 17" sizes, as well as a wide variety of tires in the OEM size. Sources: Tire Rack .
1 check your owner's manual or contact a Prius dealer. With some vehicles, different sized wheels and tires on either axle can cause serious mechanical damage. On a four wheel drive vehicle (i.e.
A 4 x 4 truck), even a slight difference in one tires' size will put undue strain on an axle and create serious problems.
