Turns out my code was working as expected and the messages were indeed sent each onClick. Problem was that I was testing it on the wrong page where the contentScript was not injected into.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
