This is really an old, time-honored Republican strategy. It's worked for them before, but they can't figure out why it's not working now. All they can do is try harder!
When Jimmy Carter took office, he inherited a crippled economy from TWO previous Republican presidents--Nixon and Ford. Nixon had actually tried to stem runaway inflation through federal wage and price controls! Can you imagine the OUTRAGE if a Democratic president tried that?
Ford's program was WIN, 'Whip Inflation Now'. It consisted mostly of mailing out a WIN button to anyone who wrote in asking for one. But when Carter took over, he inherited inflation, interest rates and unemployment all in the double digits.
The Republican strategy was to block anything he tried to do, then criticize him as a do-nothing president, and blame the recession on him. Carter's biggest mistake was in making a speech in which he apologized for not being able to do more. The Republicans to this day call it the 'malaise speech' even though Carter never actually used that word, and characterizing it as Carter's admission that the recession was all his fault.
Then Reagan came in, and he healed the economy by tripling the national debt in two terms. So now the Republicans are trying to do it again with Obama. They blame Democrats for Bush's irresponsible spending, they repeat the lie over and over that Obama's charged up more debt than any president in history, maybe ALL presidents together.
Meanwhile all they can do in Congress is block anything the Democrats try to do, but they have no real alternatives to offer. They can't understand why this isn't working! Ronald Reagan himself said that one definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result.
That really describes the Republicans today. They keep coming up with the same ideas--austerity for working people, tax cuts for the rich, more huge defense increases, more unnecessary war. The American people have rejected these ideas over and over!
I think the GOP is really in trouble!
Reid, Pelosi, and Obama were neck deep in this and didn't dare do anything but move it on or be caught with their pants down. You need to get informed! By the way, isn't it Obama who is now about to do a similar move?
Funny how when it's Bush it's bad but the same act committed by Obama is always good.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
