Can Provenge really cure cancer? Can Provenge also prevent cancer?

The is a breakthrough in prostrate cancer which uses the body's immune system to fight the disease and just recently received federal approval. Dendreon the company who made Provenge spent more than 15 years developing and testing Provenge. In each regimen of treatment, Provenge must be tailored to the immune system of the patient using a time-consuming formulation process. First doctors are going to collect special blood cells from each patient that help the immune system recognize cancer as a threat.

These cells are then mixed with protein found on most prostate cancer cells and other substance to speed up the immune system. The resulting "vaccine" is then given back to the patient in three doses for two weeks apart. The side effects of Provenge are relatively mild like chills, fatigue, fever, and headache.

Provenge is like a vaccine that treats prostate cancer, it works through Immunotherapy which means it increases the effectiveness of the immune system as it attempts to destroy or reject the cancerous cell's. It's made from getting cell's from a patients tumor then mixing it with the patients blood cells and the Dendreon PAP(enzyme produced by the prostate) and GM-CSF(immunity part) fusion protein Unlike other vaccine's it doesn't actually prevent the cancer meaning no, it doesn't prevent cancer, sorry. It is however the first vaccine to actually treat cancer, making it an effective and reasonably safe solution against fighting cancer.It is not a cancer cure but more an effective treatment against it.

Org, "Provenge is administered in a unique process (see graphic) called leukapheresis in which the blood is filtered, separated, the white blood cells are removed, and a portion retained, with the remainder being returned to the individual. Dendritic cell (DC) precursors are isolated and then incubated with a fusion protein composed of PAP and a DC targeting element.

Patients receive 3 doses, each 2 weeks apart. Provenge belongs to a class of drugs designed to train the body’s immune system to fight cancer.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
