Can someone, in a simple way, explain to me what Latent Semantic Indexing is and what it is used for?

Latent Semantic Indexing, or LSI, is search engine indexing based on the use of synonyms or synonymous phrases. Outside of the internet, we tend to regard synonyms as different words that have the same meaning. On the internet, synonyms are still the same, but we also have keyword phrases that can sometimes contain some of the same words as the original phrase, but are still considered to be LSI words or phrases.In even simpler terms, LSI words are words or phrases that are closely related in meaning.

The search engines like Google or Bing use LSI to get a better understanding or feel for what your entire web page or website is about, and also to filter out spam. The search engine spiders will crawl through your web page to pick out the keywords or keyword phrases that are used the most frequently (this is where SEO comes in). However, it will also scan for LSI words, or anything closely related to or synonymous with the selected keywords that are used.

This is Latent Semantic Indexing, and it is used to help rank or categorize web pages according to the topic that they are addressing. For example, let's say that I have a website about home remedies, and I am building a page about home remedies for acne. Since home remedies is the first keyword phrase, this is going to appear more times throughout the page or article than any other words or group of words.

However, if I incorporate a set of LSI words into the page content, it gives the search engine a broader ideal of what I am talking about (since search engine spiders can't actually "read"). The benefit of this is that it tells the search engine: " This page is not spam! It is legit!

" An example of LSI words for "home remedies" would be "natural cures," "at home cures," or even "home treatments" or "Folk remedies. " (Notice that the last two still contain one of the words of the original keyword phrase, but they are still considered to be LSI words.) There are several useful LSI word tools available online for finding words closely related to your topic, but it isn't really all that difficult to come up with synonyms in a lot of cases. In most instances, these LSI words will appear in well-written content about a topic organically (naturally).

Also, the Google Adwords Keyword Tool is still very beneficial for looking up LSI words as well.

LSI is based on the principle that words that are used in the same contexts tend to have similar meanings. A key feature of LSI is its ability to extract the conceptual content of a body of text by establishing associations between those terms that occur in similar contexts.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
