The lit face of the moon is oriented toward the sun, because the sun's light is the reason we can see the moon. By my count, it's nearly 9.00 pm in NY so the sun is some hours below the horizon. The sunlit part of the moon you can see is facing the western horizon, where the sun is.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
