This is meant to be a FACTUAL question. What I am looking for are materials to help me (well, and possibly others) to understand : 1. S reasons of opposing the war : I found a copy of his 2002 speech but would be happy to get more information: lessig.org/blog/2008/01/barack_obamas_20....
Whether he has shifted his position significantly : there is some evidence that his Oct 2002 speech was "preaching to the choir" and he might have wavered a bit later at the height of public support of the war: blackagendareport.com/index.php?option=c... underlying motivation of my question is not so much about his stance on the war. Rather, I am looking for the specifics of his stance on the war to examine his claim that he would make better judgment as a commander-in-chief. He has spoken against the war but a lot of it has been vague and he never acted on it A site I like to use a lot for fact checking is "On the Issues. Org". A direct link to their page dealing with Obama's Iraq war opposition is included in the sources below.
Basically, he has spoke against the war since the 2002 speech you referenced, however, he has been very vague with it at times. Furthermore, he hasn't really acted on this opposition during his US senate career. He wasn't in the US senate at the time, and thus could not vote against the war originally.
However, he has been presented with the opportunity to kill the war by way of voting against its funding. This is something he has failed to do. So, if he really opposed it, shouldn't he have acted on that but voting against the funding?
Instead, all we really have is statements of opposition, often vague, without real action. The people at On The Issues are actually a bit kinder with Obama on these issues than I was above. I would recommend checking out the link and seeing the factual stuff there for yourself.
They are a great non-biased, non-partisan fact checking partnership. Another solid service that does virtually the same thing is factcheck.org. Hope this helps!

Do you feel that America needs the Iraq war.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
