Can you grind coffee in a food processor?

I just got some whole bean coffee as a gift, but I don't know how to grind it. I don't have a coffee grinder, but I have a food processor. Will the food processor grind coffee?

Too big, too slow You could do it in a pinch, but it's not going to do a very good job. A coffee grinder (even a cheap one) concentrates the beans and the blade spins faster, which helps cut the beans more finely. Your food processor will do the job just fine! I even use my food processor to make ground beef, if I have some pot roast or steak that I need to use up without actually making a big meal of pot roast. By doing it that way, I can control how much fat actually goes in it.
