I am going to try to play the mandolin, but I am very confused. When I look up songs for mandolins these things called tabs come up. I don't understand tabs.
I was wondering if I could take guitar sheet music and use that to play the song on the mandolin? Asked by mb22flips 34 months ago Similar questions: play song guitar mandolin Entertainment > Music.

Well, yes and no. From a purly musical perspective you can play pretty much any song on any insturment. Regarding tabs, basically they are a visual representation of the strings, frets, and where you place your fingers.
Since the tuning and number of strings are different between a guitar and mandolin, tab notation for them is not interchangable. But... at the end of the day, a C chord is still a C chord regardless of what insturment you play it on.
Mandolins use a different tuning. A guitar is tuned E-A-D-G-B-E and a mandoline is tuned G-D-A-E, which is completely backwards from a guitar. You CAN play any song that you can play on the guitar on a mandolin, but you have to convert it first and this can get confusing.
If you already play the guitar, I would look for guitar tabs that have the lyrics with the chords above them. Then, all you have to do is learn the appropriate mandolin chords. As far as reading tabs, that's simple.
When you look at a mandolin tab you see 4 lines. These represent the four strings on your mando. ( I know a mando has 8 strings, but each set of two are tuned to the same note, thus creating a fuller sound).
G----------------------- D----------------------- A----------------------- E----------------------- (the E is the string farthest away from your hand when you are holding the mando) The numbers on the tab represent which fret you must place your finger on on that string: G--------------------0--- D----------------7------- A----------2------------- E-----1------------------ If it is a "0" that means to play an open string. If there are numbers all stacked up on top of eachother: G--3--------------------- D--2--------------------- A--1--------------------- E--0--------------------- (NOT AN ACTUALL CHORD) this represents a chord in the song. You simply place your fingers on the frets all at once.
I hope this helps! .
Mandolins are these short, bulbous shaped things tuned like violins. Only, they have two strings per note instead of the one that a violin has. Thus, chords and pickin' would both work very differently.
If you know the notes on a guitar and the notes on a mandolin, you could do the work of translating them. I did this with working piano/organ to electric bass so I could figure out how to play "O Come O Come Emmanuel" on bass. It's possible, but I did it to learn, as well.
How much time do you have? .
1 Most guitars have six, or more, strings. Most mandolins commercially available today have four strings. Even as a non-musician, this implies that many (most?
All? ) pieces written for the guitar will need to be modified for the mandolin. Having said that, it couldn't hurt to sit down and try some guitar music on the mandolin.
The worst that could happen is that you confuse yourself more, or it doesn't sound as good as you had hoped.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
