You will need to check your owner's manual to be certain, but my brother's old Corrado accepts snow chains, and I don't see any reason why the GTI would be designed such that it could not accommodate them, with standard wheels and tires.(my mother's minivan, however, as equipped, specifically does not have sufficient fender clearance for tire chains) .
BTW, studs are old technology. Advanced rubber compound studless snow tires can run circles around studded tires on passenger cars. I ran Toyo Observe tires on my last FWD car, in the winter, and had excellent performance out of them.
Squeeky-changes-suck:"I don't see why not,as long as they make them for that size of tire,If you are going to be in bad winter conditions you would be better off going to a GOOD studded winter tire. Instead of chains. "Quite right Squeeky.
On our car, we had 4 studded tires mounted on rims (avoids having to pay to have them remounted and calibrated twice a year). When winter came, we swapped out the tires. If we went on a long trip and the weather was good, we swapped out the studded tires to summer tires.
The car with the studded tires handled extremely well on snow and pure ice. If the snow was extremely deep, we put chains on the truck but that's not fun and the chains have to be removed when the roads have been cleared.
Asked the dealer today, and they confirmed that chains would work on that car. I believe that studded tires are not legal in California. My current car has winter tires on it and seems to work fine in the snow without chains.
AWD helps quite a bit. If I get a GTI, which is front wheel drive, I will have to use chains when going skiing. At Tahoe the law is "Chains on all drive wheels OR AWD with winter tires".

Alex"Asked the dealer today, and they confirmed that chains would work on that car. I believe that studded tires are not legal in California. "I believe that's because the asphalt mixture used in warmer states is different (at least that's what we were told) and the studs would ruin the roads.
Having had chains, 4 studded snow tires, an AWD and a 4 wheel drive (a Jeep), my least favorite vehicle for snow and especially ice was the AWD. The vehicle was all over the place. For ice, nothing beats 4 studded tires or chains (but they are SO noisy and a bear to get on and off).

This seems to be what you want. Com/self-publishing/signin.
Oh. Oops. Sorry.
Wrong paste. To your question, yes, but you'll need to ensure you have chains for that size wheel AND the tighteners to keep them on.
" "Original equipment shocks have a reputation for being of mediocre quality. How long might they last on my 2002 VW GTI? " "Which work best: chains or snow tires?
" "Are there any national chains that sells automotive paint?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
