Yes and no This and related questions have been asked so much this week that I’ve been playing around over on MTurk to see how things are working. Not much has changed, but the main difference I see is that they’re finally down to allowing you to accept and do only one question at a time, tho’ the time limit (yes, MTurk has time limits) flucuate occasionally it seems like. I’ve answered this question before so if this answer misses something, check to see what else myself and others have had to say previously.

Just because you answer the questions, even if you answer them well, doesn’t mean you’re going to make more than 2-3 cents even via MTurk. That's what you're paid for answering on MTurk. You can answer questions on Askville that are also on MTurk, but no pay.

The MTurk rewards are dependent on voting and as we’ve seen, voting can be iffy under even the best circumstances. You’re in competition with some equally intelligent, maybe more driven answerers, too, so even managing to snag an answerable question isn’t a gimme. Then you have to provide the best answer, get the best answer vote, and climb your way up the list of folks all vying for the reward.

Answer, oh, five questions and get no votes might get you ten cents. Five questions and five great votes might get you some dollars, but there’s no guarantee. In other words, don’t answer questions in hopes of earning URL1 may not happen.

The format for answering the two types of questions varies, too. If you snag a NowNow question, the key is speed and, to be honest, volume. Those asking there want the info now and they don’t seem to care whether it’s in your own words or simply a cut and paste job.

If you’re the fifth to answer, however, even if your answer is stellar, don’t count on any votes. Heck, don’t count on votes period, either place, which again brings me back to the message, don’t answer these questions just in the hopes you’ll get paid. I find the standards for answers on Askville higher.

Cut-and-paste will get you nowhere here. Well thought out answers in your own words are the key, even if you have to plow through a massive article to find and summarize it. You can certainly do the same on NowNow questions, but the reward isn’t necessarily equal to the time involved.

That means, bottom line, you have to pay attention to where the questions are coming from and answer appropriately if you hope to score a great/best answer vote and move up the list of those doing exactly the same thing. One of the things I like about Askville with is somewhat relative here is that you can see not just the answer, but who provided it. That isn’t true with NowNow question answers, at least at this point.

In other words, if you value your reputation here, you don’t want to slap together too many inferior answers cos someone is watching. I might note that the vast majority of the questions are coming from Askville now, too, which is far more of an open book than NowNow. I’ve actually gone to profiles and read other people’s answers (and what they’ve asked questions about) just to get a feel for who they are, mostly cos I find the community developing here far more intriguing than I’ll ever find answering questions.

You can tell who is answering questions cos they simply enjoy it, too, and who seems to just be answering ’em for the coins for the most part. Fascinates me since it sorta provides a snap shot of who we are. That’s why I answer questions here, even if you won’t see me refusing any dollars I might make thru MTurk.

I’m just not willing to answer the dozens and dozens of questions that the top winners have to plow through to continually have a shot at any serious $$$. They put a lot of time into this, so don’t think it’s easy money cos you’ve got to get past the likes of Eddie, who seems to be determined to pass Spam (ZaiJian at keast tgus weej), Awaruiz and the rest, some of whom do 100’s or questions weekly. Oh, I forgot to mention, btw, that answering questions here, like I’m doing right now, mean any vote I get doesn’t count in the MTurk competition.
