I'm looking for a book that lists as many different ones as possible, with brief explanations, perhaps some background history of how and where these beings originated. Something to use as a reference book while writing fiction. Thanks!

A few suggestions. Personally, I’d go with an encyclopedia specializing on each of the main subjects. And one that kind of compiles them into one book.

I have a Time-Life series called "The Enchanted World" and I believe there is another set about the Occult, too. "The Vampire Book" I’m attaching is a valuable resource because it covers all facets of the Vampire, from it's origin in Literature and Film, and pop culture.
