I was diagnosed with Tonsil Cancer in 2008 - 35 rads and 3 chemos and 2.5 years later I am celebrating a pending New Year - Not widely known, but throat/tonsil cancer is one of the current most prevalent cancers and rising. I have not heard about a tonsillectomy/tonsil cancer correlation. HPV, drinking and smoking seem to be the major reasons the cancer strikes in this area.
