Cashier's check a scam?

This guy tried to get me too! I responded to a job posting on craig's list for a data entry/administrative clerk position. I was then sent an email telling me to create a yahoo!

Messenger account since thats how my "interview" was going to be conducted. So fine I did it. I'm online at 11pm at night and Mr. Richardson Torres asks me if I want to do the interview right then, fine again.

So basically I was going to be paid $20 an hr to do some on line from home accounting work for his company Magnitude Computers Inc. I asked for the companys website and this was the response I got... Richardson Torres: The company's website for the Home Business Unit is under a URL change and it involves a very high re-organizational process that involves bringing all our online staffs to log-on on the same Network Online with their staff ID. That way as soon as the website is launched within the next 10 business days then each online staffs can have a log on ID/Password to get access to their duties online while still communicating with their supervisors.

That way everyone can be logged into the companies data base. You would be working under supervisors that are connected to our Regional Data Station-Centers Online........BS, I know. Do you offer direct deposit?

Here is my answer... Richardson Torres: Yes we do but right now the company pays via checks because our account department is undergoing their monthly balancing of bank accounts Richardson Torres: So you will be paid via checks which will be mailed ut to you via post mail (UPS) courier service no taxes are taken out of the checks, and BTW it took him extra long to answer this question so he must have been searching for it online, the company does Pay As You Earn tax deductions. Basically I was skeptical from the beginning so I did a search for the contact number for my employment supervisor (904) 637-4794 and thank God I found this post! So I call him out on it and this is his response Richardson Torres: Jesus Christ,,, this person is trying to use my cell phone number for illegal businesses Richardson Torres: And I don't even know who is Antonio Donovan So for this person to be an employment supervisor he has horrible grammar and this is not the worst of it.

Kinda reminds me of all the Nigerian lottery emails I get...hmmm? And BTW public records show this number as a land line and NOT a cell phone... So, I basically call it off, I tell him I'm not comfortable with any of it, I'm not able to verify anything about the company so thanks but no thanks, 1 minute later and he signs off of messenger...surprise, surprise. So sorry to you Michelle but it seems that you have been scammed and definitely DO NOT cash that check and YES take whatever measures you have to take to report this person to the proper authorities.

If you received an actual check in the mail, keep the original envelope and contact your local Secret Service office who investigate bank fraud http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offic... and ask for advice. They may ask you to mail everything to them or just shred it Ceasing contact means not to answer or even open any future emails from this person. They may send you a virus or malware that will start sending out emails to everyone in your address book pretending to be you and asking them to send money to help you.

And do not open any emails from anyone you don't know. If you get other things in the mail, either refuse delivery or contact the Secret Service again. If they don't have your bank account number or social security, you should be fine.

They will keep trying to contact you, even sending emails pretending to be from the FBI or a lawyer - don't believe them.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
